Sweet sunday - crowded on the beach

Sunday is the day when the most Brazilians go to the beach. The most Brazilians are free on Sundays and work the other 6 days of the week. So on Sundays Janine (Jair’s sister) use to join us to the beach! It’s so much fun this time here in Brazil because now I speak Portuguese and can talk to Janine and the rest of Jair’s family.

Brazilian sea monster fish!

The other day the fisherman from our favela came home with a monster that was 50 kilos! I think I would die the same second as I saw this fish in the water! It’s soooo big! It was even heavy to just try to push up the head! I wonder how it tastes like…

Carnival survey

Carnival is near so don't miss my survey! It's right here in my blog to the right. Check it out! Where is the best carnival? The Brazilians except from the cariocas (from Rio de Janeiro) and the people from Olinda keep on telling me that Salvador is the best. I want to have your opinion!

Travel tips!

If a random guy passes you on the street and shouts out “Gostosa” you should act like you got offended. Gostosa means Sexy or Delicious in Portuguese, but it’s much stronger! The only one that is allowed to call you that is your boyfriend, nobody else!

A taste of beach

I love to be able to go to the beach in the morning and feel the sand between my toes and be able to stay on the beach all day and not go home before the tide force me to leave when the water swallow my canga that I'm lying on. That doesn't even bother me because even though the sun is going down my canga will be dry in within 20 minutes. That's the beach life...

When my love's kiss taste like salt and leave a few grains of sand in my mouth that I'm crushing between my teeth some minutes later and that doesn't disturb me because every kiss is like that. Then I know that I'm living the beach life...

When you lose the time perspective and forget which day it is or what you did yesterday, because today is almost the same as yesterday was and tomorrow is going to be the same as today.

Time goes faster, I wish I could just stop it for a while...
I have to save this moment in my memory. I will save it.
I'm going to save it for a rainy day...

The beautiful sunset from our garden one of my first days here in Brazil. I really love the beachlife and I wish that I could stay here for good!

Travel Tips!

Don’t walk around with a big map in your hands if you aren’t in a typical tourist area. In some areas should walk with confidence like you know exactly where you are even if you have no idea!

If you need help go inside a store or a restaurant to ask instead of trying figure where you are on the map!

Jair's surfing school!

Surfing pictures from Thursday!

Unfortunately my battery finished in the camera, but at least I now have a proof of standing on the surf board! Surfing is so cool! I’m happy to have my own private surf instructor to teach me!

Going up...

Standing up!!!

Washing story continues

The washing machine is now on! Jair’s mum was visiting her mum in Camaçari over night and as soon as we started the machine this Monday, me and Jair started to wash all the clothes to make a big surprise for Jair’s mum! She got very very happy for her machine, but she forbid me to wash, she said that I didn’t come to Brazil to wash, but I wanna help her! She’s such a nice person!

Jair was so excited at the machine that he couldn’t stop looking at the water as it came inside the machine! I had to pull him away from there! Really I think I never been so happy for a washing machine before!

Washing have never been so fun!!!

Avvisad av servern - Rejected by server

Ohhh... This just drives my crazy! I have tried every day in three days now to upload some pictures! But it's just not possible! Every time I try it just say "Avvisad av servern" (Rejected by server) or "Säkerhetsfel" (Security error)! I don't know what's wrong but I will send a e-mail for Blogger now. If anyone else experienced the same thing and know how to solve this problem, please HELP!

Newly born favela party for Bruna

Jair’s brother Jordai and Christiane finally got their little daughter, Bruna, last Friday! She is so small and soooo cute!!!

They had already planned a little party for her for this Sunday a few weeks before. But they didn’t know if she was going to be present from her mum’s belly or not, she was really lucky to arrive for her very first party!
Proud father

The party was typical favela style at the street right outside the house! It was really a lot of fun, good music and great barbeque (Brazil really have the best meat in the world!)!

The older man played domino… I have no idea have you play this game but I noticed one thing… if you lose you have to drink cachaça (Brazilian rum)… and that’s strong!

Barbeque!

Travel tips!

If the guy you met yesterday calls you “Linda”, don’t slap him! That doesn’t mean that he forgot your name. Linda is Portuguese for saying beautiful!

Washing machine!

I and Jair have secretly been planning to buy a washing machine for Jair's mum and today we could finally do that! A lot of people participated to help to buy this gift; my mum, my dad, my grandparents and Jair's brother thank you all! Without you this wasn't possible!

We got a really nice machine from Electrolux (of course we bought a Swedish machine haha) that also could centrifuge, something that Jair's mum never could dream of! Jair's family has been talking about buying a cheap machine which could only wash and not centrifuge so this was an amazing surprise for her!

The warranty from the fabricant is one year, but after changing store and doing a lot of barging we succeeded to get warranty for 3 years for the outside of the machine, 2 years for the motor and electrical stuff and 10 years for the round thing inside where you place the clothes and we only paid 40 reais extra (160 kr or 16 Euros)! In the first store, which was the same store really but in another place in the shopping mall, the warranty for the whole machine was 140 reais for 2 years (460 kr or 46 Euros). Jair is really good at barging!

Jair's mum got so happy for the machine and told me 100 times to say thank you for my family at home! She was washing right then when we arrived with the machine and when she saw it, she just said: "I won't wash more today!" She's so happy!

Travel Tips!

Guys don’t use black socks in your sandals! That gives you a stamp on your forehead which says “TOURIST”! European guys, no offence, but very often German guys do this. Brazil is not dangerous if you don’t walk around the wrong area or wear a very expensive watch, but for God’s sake why you wanna show everyone that you are a tourist?

Typical tourist!

Surfing!

My surfboard arrived!!!!!

Isn't it cute???

Now, I have been surfing for two days with a training surfboard (more soft and doesn't break very easy). I know how to stand up, but not how to separate my feet on the surfboard. I always put both in the back so the surfboard goes like superman up in the air while I fall back into the water... :)

But I'm sure I will learn soon so I can use my cute pink surfboard!

While I was surfing, Jair was bodysurfing.... haha!

Me and my brother

He has been here one and a half month more than me, but I don't think that I will get the same skin color as him anyway!

Travel Tips!

Don’t get scared when the taxi driver don’t stop when it’s a red light, at least not if you are in Salvador after 11 pm or on Saturday or Sunday! In some counties is it legal to drive even though it is red light, due to the risk of getting robbed when you stop the car.

Janine, Jair's sister

Couldn't find a suiting picture but at least there is a taxi in this picture! And Jair's sister is nice to look at :)

Reporting from the ghetto

The third day in paradise!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The flight went alright but I still have jetlag in my body! I fall asleep around 22 every night and then I wake up around 8... That's not normal for being me... everyone who know me know that!

I got the best welcome that a girl can possibly get! Everyone here were so happy that I were coming! Jair and his dad were waving for me as soon as they saw me through the glass window at the airport! Everyone in the favela already knew that I were coming so they were yelling for us when we passed them to get to Jair's house. When we reached Jair's house my brother ran out and hugged me very hard and even lifted me up in the air, saying "I've missed you, I've missed you!"

I'm already a little bit red from the sun and I also have some mosquito bites, but no worries, I'm taking care! Today Jair's going to take my surf board! I'm so excited to see it!
